"Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life."
I was excited to start this book after reading the blurb. Not only did the paranormal elements pull me in, so did the romance that blossomed between Raine and Torin. Usually my favorite part of the book is the middle, where everything is happening, but I was shocked and totally in love with the ending of Runes. I adored Torin as well, his character was very believable and I quickly grew attached.
The paranormal element is original, and very easy to understand. Some books can just throw paranormal things in your face and hardly explain the background or give you a feel of what it really is. Runes isn’t like that.
I liked Raine, she seemed genuine and was easy to relate to. She wasn’t completely weak and seemed to be able to handle herself at times, although occasionally she did need saving -this is pretty common in YA paranormal romances, and its tolerable since .
Overall: The ending definitely won me over and I will being waiting impatiently for the next book. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy and paranormal romance! Very intriguing and gripping! Positively a good read!
