Life of a Blogger: Languages

The only language I am fluent in is English. Even though I had French class during high school and Spanish class when I was little, I remember very little from either.

I started taking French in 8th grade and I continued with it for three years. I adored the language and culture but I just SUCKED at speaking and reading in French. I would have stuck with it up until now (my last year) anyways, but in my sophomore year of High School I ended up with a crazy, old teacher, my friends dropped the class, and it just wasn’t as much fun as it used to be. So I decided that was my last year with it.

All I do remember from French is how to sing the ‘Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar’ song and how to introduce myself. Yeah… three whole years and that’s all I got.

OH I can also say the phrase “I don’t know” because it was practically my catch phrase. I often didn’t know the answer to questions in that class. *shakes head in shame* At least I tried, though! Plus the two years I took it in high school looks GREAT on my college apps!

P.S. Guess who got accepted to the first college she applied to!?!! Yup! Me! I still plan to apply to maybe one or two more schools, just to give myself options (if I get accepted to those) later. I was actually surprised I got accepted so soon and now I’m SO excited to finish my final year of high school and move on to college next fall! 🙂

What languages do you speak?

Before I address anything else, CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING ACCEPTED! 😀 *major applause*

I don’t really speak any languages outside of English, which is pretty disappointing. I’m okayish at Mandarin seeing as my parents speak it at home and I’ve been taking weekend classes since I was 10, but to be honest I haven’t put in as much effort in learning the language as I should have xD

Languages are really cool, and I’m interested in learning them, I just am way too lazy to get myself motivated… :/

I am fluent in two languages: Dutch (my native language) and English. Some days I am still surprised to get this well at english as I usually suck at languages. At school we got English, French and German and I was terrible at all of them. I still know a few sentences in french and german and “I don’t speak french/german” and “I don’t know” where one of my most used sentences ;).
Once I started uni all my study books where in english and a half a year later english wasn’t a problem anymore. I still would love to live german one day as it’s my dream to move to germany once and it would be handy to know the lanaguage then.

I think knowing more than one language is so awesome! I wouldn’t even know where to start with learning another one! I failed epically at French. I hope you get to achieve your dream! 🙂

Congratulations!!!!! Awesome! I like the fact that we’re both in our last year of high school; we have that in common aside from many other things 😉 I want to go to an English collenge so I really hope I’ll get accepter…when I’ll apply coz us it’s like before Christmas that the applications are made and before April that we know our answer.

Anyway, I speak Romanian, since I was born in Romania. Then, came to Canada (Québec) at 8 years old so had to learn French. I now talk French fluently and learned English at school at first but now mostly by myself thanks to books and am fluent as well. Also, I speak a little bit of Spanish since I did 2 years of it at school though I want to continue taking classes in College coz it would be awesome to speak 4 languages fluently. 😀

The applications were just opened for the term I plan to attend, but a lot of them are available until christmas and have late responses too. I think this colleges was just abnormally fast and, well, I applied slightly earlier than most people since the application was so easy for this school. Some are so much harder. Good luck! 🙂

Wow! That’s a lot of languages! I think Spanish would be a really fun langauge to learn, and it’s fairly similar to French I heard. Plus, being fluent in a ton of languages is an awesome skill to have when looking for a career! 😀
