July: I’ve Been a Busy Bee, Let’s Catch Up

August 7, 2016 Life 4

WHAT EVEN HAPPENED TO JULY. I looked at the calendar today and noticed that it was August 4th (as I’m writing anyway), and HOW?!

July was absolutely insane. I have much to tell. More than you probably care to read about. BUT here goes.

July Updates

LIFE STUFF

IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW, I AM OBSESSED WITH MY FISH

Fish

This is Boris, he is evil. He doesn’t like friends.

It has truly become a hobby and I love them as if they’re my children.

Snail

I tried to get pictures of the guppies or the fry but they MOVE SO FAST. This is my snail, Yellowy. (My little sister named him.)

BUT ON TO THE GOOD NEWS, I woke up two weeks ago (on a Saturday) to find that one of my guppies gave birth and I had a few baby fish (fry) swimming around my tank. BABIES. I’m a fish grandparent. Unfortunately, I’m not sure which fish gave birth (guppies are livebearers) and I’m not sure how many fry were born orginally (guppies are also cannibals and will eat their fry).

Luckily, I managed to save the five remaining babies and separate them into a little mesh box and they are growing nicely. (Guys, I am a fish grandparent! AHG!)

I TOOK A ROADTRIP TO NY

Three of my friends (y’all are probably reading this and that freaks me out- hopefully it freaks you out that I am thinking about you reading this as I write this… mhm) and I traveled to NY to visit my boyfriend. We actually met for the first time after being together long distance for six months. It was scary and fun and I am so sad to no longer be in the same state as him.

Unfortunately he could not fit in my luggage or the trunk of my friend’s car and I couldn’t kidnap him and bring him home with me. Next time, though.

I also discovered a long distance blog/website that has a forum with lots of topics that LDR couples can relate to. It gives me comfort.

Friends at NYC

This is my friends, my boyfriend, and I when we visited NYC. I am the human in the middle. (My friends might murder me for sharing this here, but :P)

I’M GETTING INVOLVED ON CAMPUS AT MY UNIVERSITY

This is actually very surprising. I’m not a fan of social interaction in groups of people I don’t know… but seeing as I’ve taken on the position of Vice President for the Women and Genders Studies student organization on campus, hopefully it’ll be a positive experience and I will adjust to the social aspect. (Check out the facebook page, the group is called The Wide Range of Normal!)

My friend Brittany is the President of WRON this year, and Caylin is our Treasurer, so hopefully having friends working together for WRON will make the socializing aspect easier for me and much more fun!

I’M VOLUNTEERING AT A LOCAL PET SHELTER

I recently signed up to volunteer at the local pet shelter and adoption center near where I live and I AM SO EXCITED. I’ll get to walk the dogs and socialize the cats, and just help out in general. Have you guys seen that video going around on facebook of the guy who purchases a bunch of dog beds and gives them to a shelter so the dogs have a comfortable place to sleep? *faints because it’s too sweet*

I have an orientation in a little over a week and then I’ll be able to start volunteering!

MY UNIVERSITY IS BEING A BIT POOPY LATELY

UGH. As a freshman last year, I planned to live on campus at my school for at least the first two or three years while I studied there, however, when I applied to return for housing this upcoming fall semester, I found out that the housing situation is very limited and competitive, and to be completely honest, they simply do not have the space to accommodate the amount of students they are admitting at the time.

WHICH SUCKS. Especially for the existing students who are returning as sophomores, who currently have no where to live and are waitlisted (ME AND CAYLIN). (Freshman year was so much easier! *cries*)

Okay, I’m done ranting about that. For now. It really makes me so angry, though.

I HAVE EXACTLY FOUR WEEKS UNTIL I GO BACK TO COLLEGE

AAAHHHH. I really can’t wait to be back on campus and to see my friends again. I mean, I work on campus so I’m there everyday except weekends, but I miss actually being on campus like as a student. With things to do. And friends. Yes.

I’ve already started buying my textbooks, and one of them is a collection of american short stories from 2015. I’ve only read the foreword and introduction, but I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy this collection (even though short stories are not my favorite).

UPDATE: I ended up dropping the class I was signed up for that required that text, however I do plan to take it in the future. Instead, I’m taking a class that will allow to be involved with a student run literary magazine on campus, called Oakland Arts Review, which publishes work from undergrads from all over! Check it out!

I THINK I HAVE RAMBLED ENOUGH ABOUT MY LIFE, SO NOW ON TO THE BOOKISH THINGS

BOOKS AND STUFF

I’M WAY BEHIND WITH ARC’S AND I’M GONNA CATCH UP

Last weekend, I went through all the e-ARC’s I requested and downloaded LAST YEAR. YUP. LAST FREAKING YEAR. I am a year behind. Fortunately, I only have about 13 ARC’s to read before I’m caught up.

So I made a shelf on goodreads and I’ve started reading one of them, and I plan to not read anything else until I’m caught up. And I’m actually going to follow through, because these are books I was genuinely interested in and excited to read. SO YAY.

ALSO, right after I did this, I noticed the hashtag on twitter for ARCAugust! What a coincidence! Must be fate! Check out the post here!

I’m not signing up this year, but I’m essentially focusing on ARC’s for the rest of the summer!

SPEAKING OF SHELVES, I FOUND AN APP CALLED SHELFIE

Have you heard of it? I’m still not quite sure how it works, but I think you just take pictures of the books you have physical copies of and then you can get discounted prices for a digital copy (e-book or audiobook). Not sure if I’ll actually ever use this, but it’s handy if you like having physical copies but like reading on the go with an e-reader.Maybe Someday (This wasn’t sponsored or anything, I was just genuinely curious about this app.) SO TELL ME, what do you think?

I CLEARLY DID NOT LIKE MAYBE SOMEDAY BY COLLEEN HOOVER

At least, it’s clear if you read my last review. THAT BOOK MADE ME SO ANGRY AND my_best_everythingFRUSTRATED. The characters were gross (cheaters) and I did not like it. Not at all. I didn’t even finish it. I read up until 50% and then gave up because it was too frustrating.

OH WELL.

LASTLY, I’M CURRENTLY READING MY BEST EVERYTHING

It’s one of the ARC’s, and I’m liking it so far, although there’s a bit of sexism (yuck.)

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR JULY? DID IT PASS INCREDIBLY QUICKLY FOR YOU TOO? TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS!

OMG! How long has it been since I’ve last visited your blog?! You changed it! It’s so beautiful! I’m actually sorry it’s been a while since I’ve said hi. It’s just that when you post comments on my blog, there’s no link to your blog, and I keep forgetting the name of your website. But now it’s stuck in my head, so you can’t get away from me mouahahahha.

Who’s the gorgeous blond at your right?? Cute fellow.

Aah, I love your fish!!! You’re light the first person/blogger I know who has an aquarium 😀

That is so stupid. People who were already housed should not be on waitlists!!! WTH!!!? I’m sorry this is happening to you!! I hope it all works out!

You’re such a good human being to be volunteering and involved in school! It’s funny how both high school and college have the same titles for students in every year 😛

We definitely don’t have that in Québec lol.

Hey! I didn’t realize my blog link wasn’t showing up. Weird. I’ll try to fix that! THANK YOU! Haha I’m glad you remembered!

And yas my fish are my children.. I adore them!! I have two aquariums, one for my friendly fish, and one for evil Boris who can’t be with other fish because he kills them.

And I’m not sure who you mean, but maybe my friend Leo? He’s not quite blond though. He almost wrote for the blog, but got lazy and never actually did.

I’m still waiting to hear back from housing, but yes, it’s so stupid! Hopefully it works out though. And yeah the titles are weird, but at least it’s easy to remember since its the same haha

And I haven’t actually volunteered yet. I’m just excited to be around animals, they’re so cute!

      Thanks for the lovely comment!
