Review: Links by Lisa Becker

Review: Links by Lisa Becker

Warning: There will be spoilers!! Also: I’ll probably ramble a lot!! I was really excited to read Links after seeing the blurb. Lisa Becker did a good job of pulling me in by writing about my guilty pleasure: second chance romances. I’ve recently had an itch for mysteries and crime novels, but Lisa Becker delivered a book that was easy to read and didn’t require too much processing between chapters. A couple times, I found myself wishing there were more areas that… Read more »

Review: Little Forevers by Katie Kaleski

Review: Little Forevers by Katie Kaleski

Little Forevers was a let down for me. First, I must mention that I read an Advanced Reader Copy of the book, so there were still edits to be made to the version I read before it would be released. That means the final version could be better than my copy. But even so, I think this book was poorly edited and that the writing was not up to my expectations. Despite that, I still enjoyed the plot, characters, romance,… Read more »

Review: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

Review: The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey

The Infinite Sea wasn’t quite as good as The 5th Wave. Although I thoroughly enjoyed The Infinite Sea, I was really hoping to have the same reading experience that I had with the first book. Both followed a similar pattern in the plot, so it wasn’t like the sequel was off topic or anything. BUT, when I read the first book I stayed up all night long reading. I finished it in one sitting. So I was a bit disappointed when I wasn’t as… Read more »

Review: It Started with Goodbye by Christina June

Review: It Started with Goodbye by Christina June

4 Stars, Reviews 2

It Started with Goodbye is CUTE! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I love that its a modern take on the Cinderella fairy tale. However, I felt like it was lacking a bit in terms of depth. Don’t get me wrong, this is a wonderful story that has a some awesome characters. WHO HAVE FUN HOBBIES. AND A CUTE SHIP. I just kept expecting there to be some greater level of meaning at some point, but there wasn’t. That’s okay, though…. Read more »

Review: That Was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton

Review: That Was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton

**There maybe might be spoilers… it’s kind of hard to discuss this book without spoilers, so… you’ve been warned.** I was expecting this book to be emotional, but mostly I was expecting it to make me sad like The Outsiders did. I guess in a way it did make me sad, but it made me more angry than anything, and incredibly annoyed. “If you have two friends in your lifetime, you’re lucky. If you have one good friend, you’re more than lucky.” Bryon… Read more »

Review: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Review: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

4 Stars, Reviews 20

plot Anna and the French Kiss was so CUTE. It was adorable and I couldn’t hold back my squeals of enjoyment. I’m such a sucker for cutesy romance. The book starts off with Anna being super bummed and annoyed that her father (a cheesy romance writer who just hit big success) was shipping her off to a boarding school in Paris. Anna quickly makes friends, though, and starts to see that maybe Paris isn’t so bad… especially if a little… Read more »

Review: Silver by Chris Wooding

Review: Silver by Chris Wooding

the plot When I read the summary, the first word that popped into my mind was “Zombies!” but I was a bit off with that assumption. There are zombie-like creatures, but they’re technically mechanical ‘monsters’ that are infected with a sort of virus. The action starts right away after introducing the characters and I felt like the action was TOO soon, and not very well-done. I had trouble believing what was happening, and while I know sci-fi isn’t supposed to… Read more »

Review: The Legacy by Melissa Delport *Blog Tour + Interview*

Oh gosh! This book was AMAZING. It met all my expectations and more. I feel like I was in the perfect mood for a good dystopia when I started reading it, which makes it all the better, however I ended up having to put this book on pause to finish up Beowulf (ugh, homework) and I could not wait to return to Rebecca’s world. That, of course, resulted in me reading Beowulf in one night and then reading three more… Read more »

Review: The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan

Review: The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth LaBan

I won this book in a writing contest on Figment, but by the time the book arrived in my mailbox, I’d pretty much lost all hype I had for it. The Tragedy Paper then sat on my bookshelf for MONTHS until I decided to read it. But then after I decided to read it, during my mid-term exams I might mention, it ended up back on my bookshelf until a few days ago. I’ve been reading it off and on… Read more »

Review: The Only Boy by Jordan Locke

Review: The Only Boy by Jordan Locke

I LOVE the cover of this book. It fits SO well and it’s gorgeous, but obviously a cover doesn’t make a book. The Only Boy by Jordan Locke had potential. SO MUCH potential. But it was lacking for several reasons. One: The writing was dull. It felt like there was no emotion, no expression from the characters. It was boring, in all honesty. It was pure curiosity that drove me forward with this story. Two: The characters were flat. They… Read more »
