Life of a Blogger: Fears

Topic: Fears

I am absolutely terrified of spiders. This summer, I slept in my living room for TWO months because a spider egg hatched in my room and there were a billion little baby spiders everywhere. It was a nightmare. I was an emotional mess at first. I cried. A lot. And I totally flipped out and would not even walk by my room.

Everything is better now, though. I am sleeping in my room and I haven’t seen a spider in two weeks (thanks to this fantastic spider spray stuff that is supposed to kill them- also totally safe by the way).

Bugs generally freak me out. Ants, beetles, ladybugs, moths, mosquitos, flies, grasshoppers, etc. I will spaz if any are even brought too close to me. I’m not even kidding, I just can not handle being around any type of bug.

One time, a grasshopper ended up in the pant leg of my jeans while I was walking my dog and I don’t think I’ve ever taken pants off faster than I did that day. There may have also been screaming.

I get a little awkward around strangers. I don’t know if it’s a fear, really, but I just absolutely hate meeting new people. It’s not the people part, just the new part, that bothers me. Once the I’ve met and gotten used to a person, everything is fine. I’m a bit anti-social, maybe?

It’s the total opposite on the internet, though. Odd, huh?

Letting people down is something that really bothers me, like I’m afraid to disappoint people. If someone expects something of me, I will do my very best to meet those expectations (unless they’re bad things…) This typically only goes for people who are important to me, but I even feel pressured to meet expectations of teachers, friends, and even people I don’t know (like those who read this blog, for example).

I think that’s pretty much all of my fears. At least, my current ones anyway. I used to be afraid of the dark and of ghosts and other countless things. I’ll probably gain new fears as I get older, too.

Now that you know I’m a total wimp when it comes to bugs and spiders, feel free to share your fears in the comments! 🙂

  1. I am terrified of dogs, I have no idea why exactly, i think it has something to do with the fact that I can’t predict what they are going to do. I grewup without much pets around us, beside some rabbits and goldfishes. And my mom was afraid of dogs, so I think that somehow translated over to me. I love seeing pictures of dogs though and I think they are adorable animals. If I know one dog long enough I can get over my fear of that specific dog.
Beside that I am also afraid of heights, elevators, airplanes, rooms without windows (especially small rooms), orca’s and not having control.

    1. I have a few friends who are afraid of dogs, too. I grew up with cats and dogs, though, so I’ve never been afraid of them. My mom actually was attacked by a dog when she was three and has a scar, which is kind of scary, but I guess it never really bothered me.

Heights bother me, but I can handle it most of the time. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  2. I’m afraid of failure. My parents put me to pretty high standards, and I don’t want to let them down. It’s a huge fear of mine. Another fear of mine is unorganized messes. I HATE things that are messy and dirty and crazy and unorganized. It seriously freaks me out.

    1. I can relate somewhat to your fears. With my parents, whenever I bring home a report card with mostly A’s and B’s, they always pressure me to improve those B’s, as if I’m not trying to do so already. I’m okay with a mess in some situations, but most of the time I like to be organized. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  3. OMG I’m totally with you on bugs GROSS and icky and I can’t handle them. Also, I’m awkward around strangers too. Hate having to talk in front of people. So we’re a lot similar 🙂

    1. Talking in front of people! That’s the worst. Once I ended up moving across the front of a room while talking and didn’t realize it and it was awful (I was actually reading an essay so my eyes were focused there, so that’s why I didn’t notice).

You ALWAYS end up in my spam folder and I have no idea why! It’s a good thing I scroll through a bit before deleting them. 🙂

  4. Who on earth likes spiders?? A girl in my math class… She literally picks spiders with her hand!! She’s crazy 😉 I’m not actually afraid of spiders because where I live they’re usually not that ugly or in grand quantity but I don’t like them either. At all. Oh, so sorry what happened in your room!! If it helps, I had a similar problem but with flies this summer. There were babies EVERYWHERE and they grew up and I had to kill like 10 per days and there were always some in my room and the sound they make just drives me crazy huhhh.

    1. That’s true! I live in a woodsy type place and they are everywhere! We also have flies sometimes, especially if my mom leaves our door open, and I hate them, too!

  5. I think most people are afraid/nervous around bugs in some form or another, haha. I’m especially jumpy around bees–because I know that they have the ability to sting, I automatically assume each bee exists for the sole purpose of causing pain to humans (which I know is not true, but I can’t help it). The second I hear “bzzz” I immediately flinch xD

I’m a lot more comfortable talking to new people on the Internet as well, haha. Because typing smiley faces is a lot easier than trying to appear ‘friendly’ in real life, I can delete/edit posts whenever I want, and I never have to worry if I look okay…

  6. Oh man, I feel like shuddering just thinking about the spider egg hatching and baby spiders crawling out everywhere. Ack! Still roaches scare the hell out of me more than spiders. Anyway, I’m with you feeling awkward with people when I’m meeting them for the first time. I feel braver in the internet as well though. Haha.

  7. “and there were a billion little baby spiders everywhere”

My entire SOUL is cringing right now O___O
I have a problem meeting new people, too! I’m socially awkward in general and struggle with any kind of social interaction, so when it’s someone who I don’t know it’s even worse!
