Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I considered not writing this review since Insurgent (and well, the entire Divergent series) has been so popular and everyone has read it. Or almost everyone. There are so many reviews for Insurgent, I could probably swim in them. But that doesn’t really matter to me anymore. I’m going to review it because I want to review it.

So now that that’s been said, I’m going to write a spazzy, excited, gushing review of Insurgent. 😀

DUDE! I can’t believe I waited more than one whole year to read Insurgent. I purchased the e-book immediately after reading (and totally adoring) Divergent, and I started reading it… but only made it to about 30% before I was distracted by something or some other book.

Once I had lost interest, I just never wanted to go back and have to start from the beginning with it. I have quite possibly the worst memory ever so I would’ve had to start over, not just from where I left off, which I resented.

Then something re-sparked my interest… which, oddly enough, wasn’t going to the theater to see Divergent (the movie), it was re-watching it on cable like eight months later! I’m absolutely ridiculous, I know. (Ps. I totally, definitely, most absolutely did not watch the Divergent movie everyday for a week during holiday vacation because HBO kept playing it.) (Pps. Yes, I actually, totally did. How pathetic. But gosh, Four is so attractive and I really like Shailene’s portrayal of Tris!)

So anyway, I loved Insurgent. The action, the secrets, the HUGE FREAKING ending and all it revealed, and Tris and Four’s relationship had me totally reeled in and my head spinning by the time I was finished.

This was me freaking out about this amazing series!

I’m not going to summarize the plot or the characters because the blurb is right up there ^ and well, if you’re looking to read Insurgent, you probably have an idea of the plot and characters already from reading Divergent.

But I will say that I loved Tris even more in Insurgent because her struggles made her all the more real, and while sometimes I kind of wished she’d just ‘get over it’ I knew that I was just being impatient. Four was just as amazing as he was in Divergent, although sometimes it felt like Roth was trying to make me momentarily hate him by making Tris doubt him and by making his choices unclear. I wish he wasn’t so hard to read sometimes, but otherwise, he’s probably one of my fav book bfs!

I will never get over Caleb’s role in the book, nor the ending. Just. Wow. I probably should have seen it coming, but I really didn’t. And I’m sort of amazed at my own ability to avoid spoilers.

I would apologize for this completely nonsensical review, but I’m not going to. Because it was so fun to write.

Spaz 2
Yeah… I do this way more often than normal. If it’s ever normal.

To sum things up, you should read this series and I plan to read Allegiant ASAP!

Have you read Insurgent? What did you think! Feel free to spaz in the comments!

  1. Hey Jess!
Happy New Year! I loved this book. Have you started Allegiant yet? I bought it shortly after it came out and haven’t read it yet. I kept getting smacked with negativity every time I logged on to Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. It played into me not reading it and the fact that I still haven’t read it… that plus the fact that I accidentally spoiled myself while looking at memes. It’s not fun reading a five-hundred (?) page book when you know how the last twenty pages are going to play out. LOL

I hope you’re New Years Resolution work out.

  2. Divergent is my favourite series of all time! I mean four…come on, you can’t get better than that! Glad you enjoyed it so much and if you haven’t already, I am sure you will love Allegiant! Great review 🙂

  3. Totally loved your gushing review Jessica! :] This series is one of my all time favourites! I’m so glad that you decided to pick Insergent up again. Allegiant was fantastic, screw what the critics say! It was perfect! :]
