June Update

Hello! I hope everyone’s month of June went well. If you live in the US, I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July! June went by SO quickly! I can hardly believe I’ll be going back to school in less than two months now. While I’m pretty excited to start classes, I’m bummed the summer is flying by so quickly.

Let’s talk about June!

I’ve decided to look back at blog stats, posts, and some of my favorite moments from June in this update post.

Blog Stats

This month Strung out on Books received 500 pages views and 200 unique visitors! I’ve been working on building up SooB’s stats since April. So far, I’ve seen progress but it’s hard rebuilding a readership after taking so many breaks between posting regularly. That’s definitely something I need to keep working on. Blogging Tip: stay consistent with posting!

Our goal is to post every Tuesday and Saturday, and we met that goal all throughout June!

My editorial internship started this month!

I’ve learned about publishing from a small publishing house that I’m interning at. The internship is 100% online with weekly Skype conferences, so it’s easy to fit into my schedule. I’ve read submissions every week, which is time-consuming but I feel like I’m learning a lot. I’m always excited for each conference call!

I went to a fair in my town!

It was a 200 anniversary celebration for a town near where I live! There was a carnival and a fireworks show! I went with my sister, my mom, and my younger cousin! We all had a lot of fun, although some of the rides terrified me. Oddly enough, the horror-themed ride was the least scary of all of them.

I explored some unfamiliar libraries in my area!

My library is a part of a community library cooperation so I can borrow books from every library that participates. So I decided to visit some of the larger libraries around where I live. The library I typically go to is nice but small, so it was nice to walk around some of the bigger libraries and check out books I haven’t seen at my local library. I even convinced my sister and my mom to check out some books (and read them, mostly), even though they’re not big readers.

How was your month of June? Tell me your favorite moments in the comments! ♥

  1. Congrats on your internship! I would love to have the ability to do that and hear more about it. Building up your readership is hard in general. I’ve been struggling with that since I started, and that was 4.5 years ago! It is especially hard after coming back from a break, which I also just did. I had the lowest stats for the first time in three years. I’m trying to stay up with visiting and commenting to help wrangle back in my regulars before branching out to new blogs.

    1. Thank you! It’s really excited but it’s time-consuming, too. Most publishers have internship options like the one I have, and smaller houses rely on interns especially to help with weed through submissions! Yeah, this past year has been the lowest for my stats, too. It’s very disheartening and discouraging, especially when you know how hard you worked before and now you have to do it all over again. I’ve been struggling to find the time to comment and interact with other blogs lately but I will find the time eventually. Thank you for commenting! ♥
